I was desperately in need of a roof rack for my kayak that enabled me to load and off load without any assistance onto my 2012 Toyota Highlander. Being 5'3" you have to get resourceful when it comes to loading your kayak. This did fit the bill to some extent, however you need to measure how you adjust the factory bars on your type of vehicle prior to installing this carrier.

The new crossover SUV's no longer have the flat back but have been redesigned with more of a contoured rear door area with an added cowling. When installing the rack you have to be able to clear that cowling or you may as well forget about this working for you. When you pull out the rear extension bar it only extends about 20" which in some cases may not clear the cowling and avoid damage to your vehicle. Also, the bar is very hard to slid in and out. I am no weakling and I struggle with it.

I did grease it up a bit and it helps but it would have been better had they designed it to slide easier. With a little brute force and some creative maneuvering I have enjoyed solo kayaking again.
